35 Characters Poster Draft 1

Process - 35 Characters Poster

Playing off the idea that our letters are made out of cardboard I decided to cut out type/image for my poster from cardboard.

Wearable Letters

The concept is a little bit reminiscent of our 35 Characters...

Inspiration - Unusual Fonts

The "Hairvetica" is a little vomit-inducing, but some of these are pretty interesting:

Process - Wearable Dropcap

Attempting to spray paint our cardboard letters while people were running around for the Geek Games may not have been the best idea...We also underestimated the amount of paint we would need.

Process - Z Fold Book

After creating a couple Z-fold templates to figure out how to layout my book I finally got it! And although at this point the Z-fold book is still in mini form I am pretty happy with it.

Inspiration

Some of these abstract posters are reminiscent of our Form & Comm collage poster/grid project.

I thought the hand-done typography on this poster was pretty interesting.

Possible ACL Posters to go with Booklet

First I laid out the text and then decided that I wanted to have an image that went along with the ones in my booklet. I created the star in illustrator and after placing it in the first poster decided that I wanted to create a poster where the star was more dominate. Not sure which one I prefer... & I still have to add the sponsors.

Inspiration

This week in Form & Comm we are creating posters for Decode: Digital Design Sensations, an exhibit at the V&A in London. This type of digital art reminded me of Chuck Close's work and his portraits composed of pixels. Although Close does not use a computer to generate his painting his process is very mechanical and reminiscent of something digital. He places a grid overtop of a photograph and a canvas and copies the image cell by cell.

Form & Comm - Collage Con't

I am going to base my poster off of the grid system from this collage. Although it is simple I find it pretty interesting and think it offers a good location for the main text to go.

Form & Comm - Collage Process

For Form & Comm our next project is to make a poster based off a grid that we create by making a collage. Step one of this process is to use random magazine scraps to create a collage and then crop in on the part that we find most interesting. Then we scanned these and brought them into illustrator where we traced their grid.

I really like the color palette of this poster and used it as inspiration for my Austin City Limits booklet.

Process for Wearable Dropcap

My "R" is getting pretty large. I am going to have to transport it to the studio to finish it.

Process for ACL companion book - concept 2

For my second concept I decided to do something similar to one of my previous posters. I am going to use these music notes that I cut out of fabric as a repeating element in my book. I will probably play around with their color in photoshop.

Process for ACL companion book

For one of my concepts for the ACL companion book I decided to use magnetic letters. One of the problems I ran into was that I didn't have enough letters to compose the words I needed. I solved this by switching the letters around and taking multiple photographs. I am going to take the photos and put them together in photoshop.

Inspiration

This week I was somewhat inspired by vintage advertisements. I used images like the one above to inspire my drawing of the women that I used on my poster this week. Here are some more: Vintage Set
